Something for Everyone

Sandy Creek Park has wide regional appeal. The park provides greenspace and recreation opportunities for a diverse group—Last year over one hundred and twenty thousand area people came here to play and relax. Lake Chapman keeps Clarke County anglers busy casting for bass, catfish and crappie. Local charities and philanthropy groups hold special events here year-round to increase community awareness of their work and to raise funds. Many companies and organizations use our facilities for gatherings and annual picnics.

Programs

We schedule programs throughout the year to increase your enjoyment of the park. The beauty of Lake Chapman is featured in such events as our popular Full Moon Canoe outings and pontoon boat rides. From the banks, herons and beaver watch you as you watch them! The staff also offers instruction in canoeing and archery in Spring and Fall, and holds friendly fishing contests in season. Look to the skies above the park whenever the stars or planets stage a show—The Athens Area Astronomy Association will be here presenting a 'starwatch.' Their powerful telescopes and knowledge of what's happening and the astral players involved make for a fun and informative evening.
